Two new P & Z Commissioners appointed

ISLAND PARK — Voters will choose two Island Park City Council members on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3. The deadline for filing a declaration of candidacy to run one of the seats is 5 p.m. Friday, September 4. Greg Walker, a Mack’s Inn resident, has filed a petition to run for the council, City Clerk Dena Burns said Tuesday. Walker owns Island Park Residential Services.

City Councilmen Brian Caldwell and Torrence Anderson, whose terms expire this year, have picked up petitions, she said, but not turned them in yet.

Both are four-year terms.

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen, and must have lived in the city for at least 30 days. The declaration of candidacy must be accompanied by a nonrefundable fee of $40 or a petition of candidacy signed by at least five qualified city electors and verified by the county clerk’s office in St. Anthony.

Declarations of candidacy are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the City Building in Last Chance. The office will be open until 5 p. m. on Friday September 4.

Burns also said the City Council has appointed Barry Phillips, a Bighorn Hills Estates resident, and VeAnn Z. Merrill of Elk Creek to serve on the Island Park Planning and Zoning Commission. They replace Ron Wilkes, whose new job at Yellowstone Park is not allowing him enough time to continue with P&Z, and Jeff Phillips, who has a conflicting work schedule and is unable to continue.

For more information, call Burns, at 558.7687.
